a little sock knitting

I had a whopper flu bug for the last 4 days and am so far behind on everything. I owe my sister a call. The book arrived Peg I love it! I was supposed to be doing some work for Alice – sorry Al I’ll get on it soon ; ). But fortunately the weather was so bad I didn’t feel like I should be out in the garden.

I did wind up some mini skeins to give away and I want to wind up a few more. These are naturally dyed from plants and each has 25 yards of super wash sock yarn in them. I know that doesn’t sound like a lot but I did knit the mini kat out of one skein(he still needs eyes) . And you could knit hexipuffs with them. Or use them in a fair isle hat. I think I am going to wind a skien a day until May 13 and then pick a name out of the comments and send them all to  one person. So all you need to do is to leave a comment to enter and you can enter each time I post up until the 13th. Let me know what you would knit or just tell me what you think.

I have been knitting socks this week. I remember why I always knit toe up socks — arggg — I won’t have enough yarn to do the toe of the second sock.

But I am going to continue to knit and see how much I am short and then I will either find some brown and finish off the second toe. Or I might unravel the first sock and knit some more on the second sock and knit 2 brown toes. I know that probable doesn’t make sense –its the flu bug talking.

I also finished the second sock of this pair and wanted to share some pictures of the toe as I was finishingthese are from the  Barenaked Club. The Yarn is a wonderful alpaca blend made special for the club and Anne Hanson designed a simple Waffle Cream pattern.  I changed up the toe a little. When I was finishing up the first sock I was in the car and didn’t have directions to kitchener stitch. And I am hopeless –I can never remember the steps unless I have the directions right in front of me. But I wanted to keep knitting so I improvised. I decided to keep knitting but to knit off the toe stitches straight across. Again this probable only makes sense to me (flu bug again). So I knit along 6 sts picking up one on each side and decreasing until I reached the other side with the last 6 sts. and now I only have 6 sts to kitchener stitch or I suppose I could do a 3 needle bind off if I wanted. But this yarn is so special I think it deserves me pulling out the directions and weaving in the ends perfectly. I like the way this toe looks and the finish is a lot like the finish on the no sew finish to the kitten bonnet here — continuing cat saga « whatzitknitz — so I am thinking of it as the pussy toe sock. Or no pussy footing around. Or …. never mind (flu bug talk)

Good night

What a gorgeous catepillar – do you know what kind of butterfly or moth it will become?

Wow, the socks are fantastic! I’ve just learned how to knit socks and still don’t have much confidence. If I win the giveaway I would knit hexipuffs for sure! I’m dying to make a Beekeper’s Quilt!
